Looking for a meaningful way to complete your Community Service Hours, or Student Independent Learning Opportunity (SILO), or Senior Project? At Growing to Give, you’ll get hands-on experience planting, harvesting, composting, and caring for soil health, all while exploring how sustainable farming can help build food security.

Who We Are
Growing to Give (G2G) is a MOFGA-certified organic farm in Brunswick, Maine, that grows vegetables for donation to people experiencing food insecurity. At G2G, we see hunger, health, and climate change as systemic issues that are deeply connected. We use farming practices such as no-till bed preparation, companion planting, and cover cropping to increase resilience to climate change as we help to feed those in need.

What You’ll Do
As a high school student at G2G, you’ll be part of a working organic farm, engaging in activities like:

Seedling propagation – Start plants from seed and care for young seedlings
No-till bed preparation – Learn sustainable techniques to prepare planting areas without disturbing the soil
Soil amending – Help improve soil health using regenerative methods
Planting & harvesting organic produce – Participate in growing food from start to finish
Food preparation for delivery – Clean and pack fresh vegetables for donation to local food-security organizations
Flower planting – Support pollinators and biodiversity by adding beauty and function to the farm

Independent Project Option
Beyond daily farm tasks, students can also develop independent projects that align with their interests and skills while supporting our farm’s mission. Whether you’re passionate about sustainability, nutrition, food security, or agriculture, we can help you tailor an experience that fits your goals.

This hands-on opportunity is for students who are:

  • Interested in agriculture, environmental sustainability, and food equity
