I could be referring to so many different things at the farm this time of year.
I could be referring to these lovely ladies under this amazing cloud cover.
Or maybe it’s this gathering of other beautiful women (and our favorite furry friend).
Could it be these unusual black pussy willow cuttings?
Even though those are all top contenders, what I am really talking about is this Beauty! This is our new Rimol seedling house. Adam and Andy installed it in just 3 days and they did an amazing job. We will move right in and put it to work after the building inspector gives us the go-ahead.
Back to the gathering of beautiful women mentioned earlier. I want to introduce you to this year’s farm crew. Joining Carrie and me this season are Genevieve and Carol. I wanted to take a group shot because it will be rare for us to all be at the farm on the same day. I heard Carol mention that she was on a steep learning curve with names, so please introduce yourself and make it worse! Just kidding Carol, you can borrow my volunteer cheat sheet–right pocket, black jacket.
Genevieve was part of our Farm Skills Training Program last Spring and then never left us. It will be great to have her with us as this year’s training program begins. She will be one of the trainers with a whole new perspective.
In other farm news….
This week, two groups of students from Morse High School came for their first visit of more to come between now and the end of the school year. The first group helped us finish harvesting the last of the spinach which was donated to MCHPP. Our later group got started clearing the spinach tunnel and making it ready to plant again. We are excited to be working with these students over the months of April and May!
This was the Saturday volunteers project: finish preparing the beds for the next crop and get it planted. Which they did. Thanks, Saturday volunteers–it was a lot of work but the salad turnips got planted and now we wait and watch them grow.
We are almost finished pruning. The willow hedge needed to be thinned and topped. Genevieve and I finished it while battling the wind and had lots of canes to share. Let us know if you would like to plant some. We are also propagating elderberry cuttings to share. We will keep you posted when they are ready to go out into the world.
The hardest part of the week was the cold wind. The best part of the week was all of the above. Thanks for signing up, showing up, and helping us make all this happen.
Always grateful,
Theda
