Happy New Year! We have a few things we wanted to share and an exciting update.
This year will be our 3rd year hosting the Farm Skills Training program. We wanted to get the word out in case anyone out there in our G2G community knows of someone who might benefit from this hands-on experience. The program is a paid training program for ages 16+, for 11 weeks, starting mid-March and ending early June. The goal is to give individuals the job skills to be able to work on a vegetable farm. These are life skills that can transfer easily into your own home gardens, too! The deadline for the sign-up is February 1, 2024. We are partnering with the Brunswick-Topsham Land Trust and Curtis Memorial Library to offer the Winter Garden Workshop series starting Sunday, January 21st. The line-up includes lots of interesting topics – from Acorns to Invasive Jumping Worms. Growing to Give is collaborating with Becky Arden for the February 11th workshop. Becky is a local herbalist and will be sharing her knowledge on processing elderberries and their amazing health benefits. Wondering how to have fun, stay warm, and support us during the chilly month of January? Maíz Restaurant https://www.instagram.com/maizcolombianstreetfood/ and Three of Strong Spirits https://www.threeofstrongspirits.com/ are teaming up to do a fun rum cocktail/food tasting/party extravaganza on January 19th at 6pm at Maíz’s BRUNSWICK location (11 Pleasant Street). They will be offering basket raffles and have generously selected Growing to Give as a beneficiary of raffle earnings! Be sure to save the date for a fun evening of locally-distilled rum, Colombian delicacies, raffle prizes, and dancing! Admission is free!
Our exciting farm update is that the amazing Fix-it Team has been battling the winter weather to enclose the storage shed.
ROOF IS ON and so are the DOORS!
Thanks to everyone on the G2G team who is either out there in the elements or working quietly behind the scenes moving us into 2024.
Always grateful,
Theda
